Let’s get right to it.

I’ve wanted to say those words for quite some time, so my apologies that I didn’t take the time to say Happy New Year first.

Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection. We are in the late phases of wrapping up its development and while we want to get it into your hands as soon as possible, our priority is to make sure that it’s as polished as possible before we release it. So, until then… testing, testing and more testing. As one of the final steps, we’re putting Offline into the hands of some of our most hardcore players, the DevTesters. This group of volunteers is going to put Offline through its paces before we release it.

In Update 10, you can still play solo in Regions on your own, or in Multiplayer with people from around the world. What’s new is the Single Player Mode, which allows you to play the game Offline by yourself. And because your saved games in this mode are stored locally, you can save and load to your heart’s content. Our team will be delivering a follow-up blog that will outline the full details in the near future so stay tuned.

So what does this mean for the Online game? All of the benefits of being connected will remain including access to Multiplayer, the Global Market and Leaderboards. And all of your pre-existing saved cities and regions will still be accessible should you log-in to the Online game.

Bringing the game Offline means big things for our wonderful community of Modders. They can now make modifications to the game and its components without compromising the integrity of the Online game. Modding is a big part of our studio’s legacy and we’re excited to see what you guys create. Check out this thread to learn about Oppie85’s Central Train Station, which you can put into your game right now, and if you’re interested in making your own content take a look at the Modding Policy. To get you started, we will be rolling out a series of tutorials from the studio that surfaces how we’ve created some of the content that you’ve seen so far in hopes of inspiring your creativity.

So that’s it from me for the time being. Keep an eye out for more information on Offline shortly. We’ll be releasing more information on how it all works. And as always, get in touch with me on Twitter @EAGamer, I’m always eager to read your feedback.

From me, and everyone at the studio, thank you again for staying with us. We look forward to getting Offline for SimCity into your hands as soon as possible.

YES!! Finally we'll be able to start creating mods for this game!

Other high graphic intense games on my custom built PC run just find.
so I think EA just made it up that the SimCity game can only run online.

So I have a 4 core processor running at 4.2 Ghz and 16 gigabytes of RAM running locally (so with no internet lag or PING issues) but EA were kindly going to offer me MORE than that. Were going to offer everyone playing (hundreds of thousands of people at a time) more than that EACH! Because my local rig couldn't cope with it. Interesting.
It would have to be a HELLUVA lot more than that each to compensate for the internet lag from the servers.

Very kind of them to do that - I'm not surprised they struggled early on. I'm guessing the server stack and PC infrastructure that required effectively providing super PC facilities for a 6 figure number of people online simultaneously. Must have cost them in the region of 2-3 BILLION dollars at a bare minimum. Just for this game. That really is very kind of them. Expending at least 20x the cost of the game for every player on the hardware to support that player online. What a generous bunch they are.

Or were they talking nonsense... Or from day one could you unplug your internet and play for up to an hour with no problem?

Was this all a shallow scam - a web of lies to justify an always online DRM that added precisely zero to gameplay and was there just to hammer you in the face with micro transaction?

"Sim Tiny Village" a game with so many features nerfed from previous versions it's almost like a Kickstarter Alpha where we are all waiting for the real gameplay to turn up...10 months later and not much of it has.

So there's the 2 sides of the debate. I wonder which one is true?

/disappointed SIMCITY in how silly online play and file transfer is. My cities stop processing? To much work just to play the game if I have to keep "rollback"ing my cities... Boo!
Offline play... CHEER!

Can we get a fix on the traffic and sim pathing? It's still very broken. Sim moves in- looks for the closest home. Sim looks for job- again looking for the closest job. Good. Then things start to go pear shaped when Sim gets off work. Sim looks for/goes to a totally different home. Sim looks for new job in the morning....and the cycle happens over and over. It's messing with the job statistics, the housing statistics, and the zone needs.

If ea doesn't make bigger cites I don't care I'am sure a modder can do what ea called "impossible" in one afternoon

That was a great information. Keep posting for more useful information. best online casino, best online casino

i find that maxis must make bigger maps "an option" for players in offline modus for those that can run it
the rest can do the shitty small maps online modus
and plz make god mode come back in the game.
i miss the days were majors can do endless creativity on making REGIONS an CITYS and not these SMALL TOWNS
if this comes back to the came then this game is better than Sim City 4 and ONELY THEN i came back
and not 1 feature will do any difference . Bigger maps god mode and regions with city’s link to each other like sim city 4
all these things wil have to be back in the game to make me come back

This sounds like great news but when I check the Amazon reviews on this game most to this day are still negative reviews. so I think I will still wait to see if EA is going to fix this broken game before getting it.

Firstly, I just want to say how surprised I am to see the announcement of an impending offline mode in the Simcity launcher. Thank you Maxis, you have finally given everyone what they wanted out of Simcity most. Some "significant amount of engineering work" has indeed gone underway for the new offline mode. You can read it here:

However, there are still a few aspects of the game that make it slightly disappointing. The main ones are the small city sizes and minor graphical errors, as shown here:

I believe that you can add/fix these negative aspects of the game because you have already managed to get the offline mode into alpha, which you say has taken over 6 1/2 months of engineering. By doing this, you will truly get Simcity out of the gutter and back on to the road.

Happy New Year Patrick Buechner , Thanks Maxis.

Bigger maps are impossible, heh?

Show me where, may I'm blink, but I can't recognize where it's impossible...

What next impossible task they will recognize and make later? Maybe Bigger maps?

Hurry up, We are going to use the mods for it, like we did for offline gameplay...

It is now february 2nd.... when is the release?????????????????? Hello???????? at least give a date!!......It's been MONTHS. should we all just quit now? my only hope is a modder makes the maps larger.. because these tiny maps ruined the game.

When are we going to be able to use the entire map instead of these stupid little squares? Look at all that land that is being wasted. That unplayable land is screaming to be developed.

Ok so you wanted offline play. I get that but that just means you didn't care about social aspect. Bigger city would be nice but when I played sc 4 I would never go back to certain sections anyway. Play in sandbox mode and treat each city like a neighborhood you are working on. Ea is 2 big to fail . The different things you can do like different types of industrial work whether mining or whatever is so more interesting then just laying out industrial areas and you have educational, tourist, etc etc. Graphics are amazing and details like even something like watching them put up a building or putting out fires is cool. Now you can build overpasses etc. Put in different parks and watch your neighborhood improve. I could go on and on but you get picture. Modders may solve bigger city issue but really what I would like is a little terraforming ability and a little more things like malls, farming, military installations but modders will take care of that.

Good to know. Now if we get larger maps I'll be 100% willing to play this game instead of only 60% willing. Offline mode is for me an idc situation, but if/when I move home it would be nice to be able to play something whilst the network is being set up (usually it's the first thing that ever gets set up when moving home but these things sometimes take more than a couple of hours.)

as soon as update 10 comes out some random guy will do what EA couldn't do even with like 500,000 workers in one afternoon. But even with offline ea still don't think I'am gonna play this piece of junk.

the mega towers chinatown style and four square style are working and are easy to acces but it is a shame that the other style beautyful in design is not so easy to acces the soxt is too hight it take to much time to really build even in lama speed and many hours it take a little bit of fun from the game without cheating and i am not the type who use cheat codes and so on. either wise working with pc and sometimes big screen or projektor it is really fuin to play, hope to see the park in shops, if you advertise with free download make sure it is working or place them in other places than shop cart regards.

I do like the fact that I will be able to play offline, but will this eventually give us more building space? I haven't played since early December as I just get tired of switching between maps. It is fustrating and gets old very quickly. Once we get bigger maps, I'll be back. Until then, I consider my money lost and "lesson well learned"

Thank you. I have been an old school Sim City player since its inception and was very disapointed to find my newest version was "social".. Just want to chill every once in a while playing a great game without worrying about passwords, login names or other people.

Can't wait for the launch

this as been to long waiting for offline mode as you don't let us know whats going on too . I hope you give us a full region to play with and not just a plot of land
please sort it soon as a full region to play is so much better then a plot

Dear Mr Patrick and Maxis could you please fix the traffic already and the workers issue with the population count,or you have taken our money and saying to us we dont care.

EA won an award for WORST COMPANY of the year,... TWICE. I can only assume that this SIMCITY debacle will grant them the honor of winning the award for the third year in a row. At this point it doesn't matter if they do a complete 180. I think whether they win the award again or not, the award creators should shape the award to resemble EA's logo. So whenever a company acts horribly, we can all say, "They just pulled an EA."

Anyone have a specific release date for the offline mode? I stop playing this game a month after I purchase "Cities of Tomorrow" because of the online mode limitations.

The sad thing is I love this game, but the fact the game has been out for a year and still no sign of offline they keep promising us, what about people like me that just moved to a new house and cant get internet yet, so now I gotta sit here and wait for however long now til 10.0 so does that mean I sell the game or what pointless....

Release Date for this patch?

Why are all of the comments hating on the game? This blog is supposed to be a good thing, and everyone's all like, "they said it was impossible", and "this game is horrible". If you hate it, don't read a blog about how offline is coming!

1.5 disapointed

To late is the relevant comment and waiting for yet another month is going to kill it for me. I was at one point looking forward to The Sims 4, but to tell you the truth I think I may skip it. I just wish I could get my money back for this garbage. I am barely interested in offline mode. I am barely interested in the Sims4 along with it. All around applause Maxis for letting EA "Voted the worst company in America" do something stupid again! I don't know I may give it a shot when they go offline, but in truth I will not pay for a single piece of the extra's just because for one it just sucks online period!

When already.

When will offline mode come out?

how much longer we can play off line ????????

I have to agree with me710. The devteam /engineers Focused to much on the special features & gaming mechs, and this caused the game to pay too much attention to to many fine details. We need this game to be laid back a little. when you focus your efforts to much on one Aspect of any game you forget whats really important, the People that buy and play this game. I'm hopeful that someone smart enough reads these comments and takes them to heart when rebuilding or building a new verson. Because this game could be so Amazing if they would stop trying so hard. let us not so hard core gamers enjoy a little more with out the stress. lol

do you have a rough date for the release date of update 10?

EA's mediocre competence as a developer is staggering. The game is still full of bugs.

I suppose my question is simple enough, will I be able to keep playing and create new online games, I really like playing it online, ive been a sim city fan since the first one. even had it for SNES . I hope this wont just be offline

You guys are just argueing about something that's stupid. EA ans Maxis can't do EVERY LITTLE THING you guys want! It's just not possible!

Still waiting on this offline mode.... Time is money! I haven't played in months. Having to be hooked up to their server that keeps resetting my city whenever it thinks something went wrong is a real drag.

I am still Wondering what's the idea behind that. When the most of the gamer and Games are looking to completely transfer on Cloud computing. What things make them to take this away from their customers. I am expert in writing on Mini Fridges and don't know so much about the technical terms . But its sounds bad idea for the real gamer who Love to spot light their progress.

In addition to the off line single player ( thanks for listening EA ) Id like to see the ability to play an entire region like all the old games with no "boundaries" In other words, have the antire region mapped out like the old game.

Great - so when are you going to FIX megatowers and make Larger Maps?

yes i have waitet on this thanks man :-)

Quando ficará disponível ? já faz 2 meses que foi anunciado e até agora nada. eu que viajo muito, espero o modo off line para jogar no avião, pois a unica coisa que odiei no jogo é ser obrigado a estar on line para jogar

will origin still be required?

It's funny how before adding multiplayer was a huge thing and now, adding single player is awesome.

Hello! Any previews?? I can't wait...
