Let’s get right to it.

SIMCITY OFFLINE IS COMING!

I’ve wanted to say those words for quite some time, so my apologies that I didn’t take the time to say Happy New Year first.

Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection. We are in the late phases of wrapping up its development and while we want to get it into your hands as soon as possible, our priority is to make sure that it’s as polished as possible before we release it. So, until then… testing, testing and more testing. As one of the final steps, we’re putting Offline into the hands of some of our most hardcore players, the DevTesters. This group of volunteers is going to put Offline through its paces before we release it.

In Update 10, you can still play solo in Regions on your own, or in Multiplayer with people from around the world. What’s new is the Single Player Mode, which allows you to play the game Offline by yourself. And because your saved games in this mode are stored locally, you can save and load to your heart’s content. Our team will be delivering a follow-up blog that will outline the full details in the near future so stay tuned.

So what does this mean for the Online game? All of the benefits of being connected will remain including access to Multiplayer, the Global Market and Leaderboards. And all of your pre-existing saved cities and regions will still be accessible should you log-in to the Online game.

Bringing the game Offline means big things for our wonderful community of Modders. They can now make modifications to the game and its components without compromising the integrity of the Online game. Modding is a big part of our studio’s legacy and we’re excited to see what you guys create. Check out this thread to learn about Oppie85’s Central Train Station, which you can put into your game right now, and if you’re interested in making your own content take a look at the Modding Policy. To get you started, we will be rolling out a series of tutorials from the studio that surfaces how we’ve created some of the content that you’ve seen so far in hopes of inspiring your creativity.

So that’s it from me for the time being. Keep an eye out for more information on Offline shortly. We’ll be releasing more information on how it all works. And as always, get in touch with me on Twitter @EAGamer, I’m always eager to read your feedback.

From me, and everyone at the studio, thank you again for staying with us. We look forward to getting Offline for SimCity into your hands as soon as possible.

And now we can play in big maps???

Good. with this, Modders will bring out bigger maps since the dudes at maxis are unable to pull it off. MODDERS FTW!

Wow wow wow nine months later EA decides to do what the customer wants. Too little too late.

Destroy this game, take SimCity 4, and start from there without any of the dumb ideas you had such as the size of the cities, required online, Origin, etc.

MODDERS FTW! get ready people, thanks to the modding community who actually know how to code, we're finally going to have those bigger maps everyone always wanted:D. I might actually have a reason to download it back on to my PC.

Yes! I love you guys. Ok multiplayer is very good, but lots of people like play alone.
Guys! One more thing need: Region editor! SimCity 4 included. Why not edited region? Players can put down city area, great works, trees, and make mountains, seas, and any others.
If the game included region editor, it would be so perfect!

This game ruined the series so I can't ever in good conscious pay for it.
I don't even want to play, even if I still pirated games I wouldn't touch this sad, sad mess. :(
SHAME

Yes! Multiplayer is very good, but lots of people like play alone.
Guys! The game need two things.
Region editor (where the players can make new regions with lots of city areas, great works, trees, mountains, and ect.), and players can destroy online game cities, and restart, because lots of players haven't other DLC, and they (and I) can't captured the abandoned cities. Unfortunately, this kills a lot of online region servers.

Too little too late. Still angry I couldn't get a refund on this shameless money-grab. The "simulation" is broken on such a fundamental level that I don't even believe modders could whip it up into an actual game.

Great news! now, I believe it won't be any trouble to enable larger maps, if all the work is being done locally... I have enough power to run larger cities, enable to option to build small, medium and large cities.
Then release a DLC for highways, subways, etc.... (we get that you need to earn more money)

AT LAST!!! thank you!!!!

can we download the free version(single player) from this site?

thank you! maybe modders will be able to save this game now.

If you had just admitted you messed up and should have put single player in the game, in the first place then I would have bought the game, I'd love a new SimCity that has updated graphics and ran like the old ones. Instead you toss in single player like you invented it. I'd compare your SimCity to windows vista.

Side note: If skyrim is capable of being offline, then your city builder should have no problem doing that out of the gate.

Maxis, I love you guys, but this goes ageist all those arguments that you made stating why you WOULDN'T be adding offline. Glad this feature is being added because I never liked mandatory online play.

I was a fan of SimCity series for many years ; yet this one really p*ssed me off.
As a programmer , I understand the needs of protecting the value of our hard work. (sorry , gnu evangelists.)
However , I paid 1500 TWD (about 50 USD) for a game which I can't play when there is neither wifi nor ethernet.

This really upsets me.

I'm living in a country where I will not always get stable connections. This is not my fault and I have no choice.
Anyway , thank god I quit SimCity , which saves my time for other meaningful things.

No-one seems to actually have said this yet, but THANK YOU. This development not only means I can play offline, but that the modding community can tinker and adapt the game without messing up online balance! THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bout garsh darned time add the swears yourself

Cool now when to we get decent sized maps like it predecessors? Burned me pretty hard last year, still not convinced it is fixed. Even with the addition of off line mode it is still bath water compared to the original... how long ago was that released!?

Well this is good news, but what about the major bug issue :

"You can not claim this city because you do not own some of the content used to create it"

so far there has been delays and ignorance of this issue that really kills the game, i have every DLC and stil can't claim most cities that is abandoned. Maybe Mazis can tell us yhay yhe next update will fix this? reference: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Miscellaneous-Issues/You-can-not-claim-this-cit...

The "You can not claim this city because you do not own some of the content used to create it" major bug needs to be sorted ASAP cause lot's of users have stopped playing cause of it, and it's frustrating when u own every DLC and still can not claim ghost cities, whole regions dies.

This is AWESOME! Thanks Maxis!

It's quite obvious that multiplayer Simcity 2013 was a failed attempt and they want to keep the money kitten purring so making this now have an offline system does that. It's going to entice more people to buy the game, all those people that refused to buy a online only simcity game, and there are plenty of them. It even might entice people to buy more DLC from Maxis.EA if they can use it in their offline game.

I only laugh when I think of the EA employees that said that Offline mode is impossible just to try to quiet down the masses from requesting it. I'm guessing there was a big enough shakeup at EA/MAXIS to allow old hats to leave the show and the new hats to convince the suits to allow offline mode and convince them it will sell more copies of this and any future installments (which IMO it will).

Offline is a BIG plus in Maxis corner in bringing back player, but I believe they need to step it up. They got all these programmers fixing but what about the people what we want to make this game like no other. Customize building to have your name or Family business that you help grow from mom and pop to name brand. Something that no one has ever done for SimCity. :)

Please stop complaining, specially about the bigger map size. If your not smart enough to do a private island and then build your cities that way then there is no hope for you.

While I've only recently come to appreciate the ability to save the game to the cloud I also welcome the ability to play offline. I'd like to thank the Maxis team for their continued support of the game so long after it's release.
One thing which should be looked at is how to backup the locally saved data for transfer to a new computer or just for backup purposes.
Thanks again and I can't wait. I'm in the Air Force and when I go on trips I generally don't have internet access so this is a welcome addition to the excellent game.
Maybe you guys could increase the size of the cities for the next go-around?

The reason this is coming on is so they can kill online support (eventually shut down servers) and update development (why pay for code monkeys working on a game that's not generating anymore money). What say yous?

I don't know why you want those big maps for if the agent's don't work correctly even when they are a city block away. Have non of you watched any videos that show you this stuff? If you leave it to the community they will turn whatever they get into racist stereotypical junk with nudity in it.

Well, I brought the game before the new year haven't played it yet bcd my computer doesn't support it ugh but it really seems like a great game Imo a real true sims fan and I truly cant wait to play this game!!

ben offline mod istemiyorum. daha büyük harita istiyorum.

i don't want offline mod in this game. I WANT BIGGER CITY SIZE. big map size in online mod. larger city in the region. do you understand that..

(not offline mod not single player not cracker. idont want thats)

Now all they need to do is make the city space a lot bigger! wake up Maxis! Am i really the only on how want to play a big city like in Citiesxl. Believe me, if Citiesxl was less LAGGY I would not even be on this blog page, i would be playing that game. For some reason I Still have my hopes up for this busted game! Shame on me I guess.

Finally I can buy this game.

How can they not have created a way for us to get bigger maps? I work for a software company and this is such a huge blunder. We would never release a product that has so obviously missed two key components that our users wants: large maps and an offline mode. In my company we never would have released because this was an issue ever since beta, but even if we did release because the executives were thinking of dollars, our number one priority would be to get bigger maps asap!!

How are you so out of touch with what your users want? How is this possible? I purchased this game after not buying since SimCity 3 and I can say that I will never purchase another Maxis product again. Why should I give my money to a company that doesn't listen to its customers at all?

I still wont play the game or put more into expansions or add-ons until the map sizes get bigger.

I wish I could say that this franchise benefited from the pairing of Maxis and EA, and then Origin (lol), but not.... Maxis was always the creative mind behind this game and it should never have gotten in cahoots with any of the aforementioned.

offline?????????? ~ A M E N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ummm, just tried to log into my game for the first time in a few weeks, so there was an update. It forced me to download a new version of Origin and now the game won't launch... Get an error that says that origins is not installed and it is running. Now, I can't play online or offline. Just what I deserve for continuing to do business with this company.... what a mess!

YYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love SimCity! especially since I will soon be able to play it OFFLINE! Thank you so much! Great game. If only we could have huge cities. Couldn't you have a option for big cities or small cities like in SimCity 3000?

I haven't upgraded my computer anytime since I've purchased the game. Will my PC be able to suddenly handle all the processing power required previously handled by your servers?

Those of you who kept complaining to EA about offline did your part, so thanks for that. The rest of us also did our part, by hitting EA where it hurts the most, their bottom line.
Many thousands of us refused to buy this game at release even though we were looking forward to the new and improved SimCity. So EA finally did what it needed to do to increase profits, and for no other reason.
Once the off line version is released, I will be buying it and probably end up spending more time online, but at least now I will have that choice.

Finally got the game to load.... I trashed the new version of Origin and downloaded a fresh one again, for some reason the one I was forced to install earlier did not work. :-/

Ya'll be stressin'. This is awesome. Big picture wise I thank you Maxis. I understand the importance and picture of everything online for tracking/money purposes, but this franchise deserves this. Thank you again.

What about bigger maps? I hated being forced to play online, so this is a huge plus! I still miss the massive maps and linking cities my own way. I feel so restricted with what I can within one city with the teeny tiny maps. Possible future enhancement, please!?

What... what?
(looks up from SC4 and a 2-1/2 year RT loaded 'world)...

offline you say?
drm - hiss boo (better using disk/iso but call-home is acceptable I suppose)

offline? Maybe getting warmer.
Subways, bigger maps, regions - like my retro-version...?

Well, I *may* dust off my credit card for Maxis - we'll see. Hard for an old guy like me to let go of years of bullcrap from the team, but, we'll see.

I'm considering forgiving you EA... Me and the rest of the world is watching... Yes, I did buy it during the "launch", mostly because of my fond memories of SimCity on my Amiga 1000. 2k wasn't too bad... 3 & 4 didn't hold my interest for long. 5 has been a good start Cities of Tomorrow doesn't seem well balanced. Plus I am finding it rather annoying that time is my most valuable resource in that expansion and my only choice is waiting. So far I think SimCity 5 is showing the most promise we have seen in a long time. Keep up the good work.

Now can we AT LEAST have steam support? Id rather really really not have to use origin. I already am setup on steam with many achivements and friends. I hate having 2 clients.

This is wonderful news. Finally the modders can make this game worth the money we all threw at it!

Next, you guys can admit you were bsing about the map sizes too...
