CitiesXl tried this formula,

Permalink Submitted by Johnny5clowna on Aug 14, 2012

CitiesXl tried this formula, but FAILED because it was $15/month... I HOPE EA keeps the online FREE.. if they want this game to stay online, they'll NOT do a subscription... also, Just change the Final Box art to say SIM CITY WORLD... That has a Nice sound to it... and would not confuse people... since there was already a SIM CITY ('89) Also, the replay of the Conference is NOT available... I wasn't able to see it because I woke up when the conference was over... 11am CST.. why host it in Germany anyways?? either way... I WANT the BETA.... I Just got a KILLER PC... I need to run SIM CITY WORLD ON IT...

Permalink Submitted by ninkosen on Aug 24, 2012

It's called SimCity, and they are gonna rename it over my dead body. SimCity and nothing else is fine as long as they are going all in and make it last longer and better than SC4. It's also a way to get people attention, I think it's working pretty well. If it had been SC5 or something I would have been like "whatever" (granted how fail was SimCity societies which btw sounds a bit like your SimCity World), but SC and nothing else really caught my curiosity... I think it's best SimCity World just refers to all that online portion of the game.

There won't be a subscription otherwise we would know about it already since people are already pre-ordering the game. But you can except a store of some sort, you can actually see that in the YouTube video "store".

well i'm pretty sure you can't buy Sim City (89') any more but still... Simcity World... nice ring, but kinda mis leading a bit maybe? either way i'm so ready for this game, i've played and still play Simcity 2000 for as long as I can remember, my Uncle and Dad play it as well, so if this is free and works right we could all play and what not. sadly though SC2k can't save any more on windows 7. and yes gamescom is in Germany, the worlds BIGGEST game conference.

People asked if Starcraft 2

Permalink Submitted by Malavok on Sep 04, 2012

People asked if Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 were gonna have a monthly fee as well. What the heck is up with these paranoias? SimCity is neither a browser game (a game that depends on subs and micro) nor an MMO (a massive game endeavour). Of course it's not going to have a monthly subscription. Vanity Microtransaction, sure it's likely. But not subs.

Plus, Maxis didn't even make SimCity Societies so people need to stop comparing the two, as well.

As for the content itself:
SimCity World will have better graphics, grid-free city-building, more fleshed out infrastructure and there's gonna be a whole new level of gaming with tons of players cooperating, competing, working together or messing with eachother. The fact that the devs mentioned a city that is focused on mining and metal, implies that the resource management in the game is going to be a LOT more detailed and varied as well.

Oh i agree, Even if the graphics are sub par i think the game play with more then make up for it. I doubt there will be a monthly fee, but if they do decide to put a monthly fee on the game i think most dedicated SIm City fans who have played every Sim City to date will be more then willing to pay it for the best City simulator to ever be made.

Permalink Submitted by endersdragon34 on Aug 17, 2012

Does anyone else just want to create a small town that specializes in something (maybe like a college or farming town) and not a big mass metropolis. Not saying that metropolises wouldn't be fun to create, but I think at least one of my cities will be a smaller town.

Permalink Submitted by anthead77 on Aug 19, 2012

Yeah I agree, the way the game looks, having one or even a couple of small towns sprawled out around the map will look cool. I found it difficult to do this before because it was too hard to make enough money, patience im ok with, i can wait for the dollars to click over but most times i'd go into the red. But now with the Global Market, its now more manageable and flexible to choose how to play. I wonder if they'll have the option in gaining money boosts from completing the challenges ? Or if your city is a Metropolis, do you pay a CARBON TAX if your city is polluting too much because your in location somewhere on the all time Top 1000 City money makers leaderboard. Thanks.

Better yet forget about only

Permalink Submitted by anthead77 on Aug 19, 2012

Better yet forget about only the leaderboard rich minority pay for their pollution whoes. Have the pollution capped. Anyone over the safe pollution threshhold gets charged a carbon tax penalty. Hospital services will cost more because of the pollution side effect to the public, more parks and recreaction will be needed to satisfy the masses. Just so that its a bit more of a challenge to make money once youve built a metropolis. just a thought. that way we can see on the leaderboards who are the poluters and how much carbon tax they're spending. And this Carbon Tax money could be put on the Global Market in a seperate shared Good Health Reward Fund shared amongst all the cities who fall well under the carbon tax threshhold. See It pays to be green ! And I aint just talking about the color of the money.

I agree. It would be good to create a smaller town, at least to begin with. I think with the way things are shaping up, however, once your town takes off it may grow of its own accord. Beyond this I would love to see something bridge the gap between this game and Sims 3...maybe be able to upload my Sims 3 household into SimCity. Shades, I still remember playing the SimCity trading card game that came out some years ago...lol.

GLOBAL TRADE !

Permalink Submitted by anthead77 on Aug 19, 2012

GLOBAL TRADE !

I like it how in a Sim City game they have made the simple idea of trade, and how, who, what to trade look so easy to understand in the Sim City global market and yet make it feel as exciting as if your physically on Bell Street seeing the stock exchange come to life with live price reports and feeds !

TOUGH DECISIONS

I wonder if from time to time if we will see the price of certain items crash in price or rise in price from an unexplained event to keep things interesting long term for gamers so its not too predictable in reading their current fluctuations in the Sim City global market and making things get a bit lazy in their city building approach. Imagine if one random item, why not two, rose or fell in price ? What immediate major changes in your decisions would you consider in relocating or in restructuring your city plan or business plan layout. Or will you take the risk and stick with your current plans and ideas and see if you can survive long enough to see it through the financial crunch.

NEVER JUDGE A CITY BY ITS CREATOR

Hey when the presentation of game play is as visually stunning and immersive as this, who cares right ! The colors are smoothe and easy on the eyes which really helps for those long hours of game play. Seeing the city I created come to life will be cool. Especially the fact that in the past i liked creating a gridlock traffic scenario. Now with the new graphic engine, my epic long gridlocks will look so sweet, but even more so at night, seeing all the red and white lights inching along the road for miles and miles, the commuters thinking Im gonna be late for dinner, again! Lol. Not having to worry about numbers and stats i can then just look at the gridlock and get a clear visual understanding that my pollution will be slightly up along these areas, production will continue to fall steadily due to a logistical nightmare. Yep you guessed it, gridlock.

PLENTY TO DO AND PLENTY TO THINK ABOUT MAYOR

Across the board for the young and old, new to the game and experts of city build sims will enjoy mostly the simplicity feel of pick up and play, the map scale to add depth and difficulty to the game, the count down challenges, the unison through global trade, and private matches amongst friends.

Permalink Submitted by FunnySquirel on Aug 27, 2012

I really hope that trade isn't all global like the failed Cities XL MMO system. That would ruin the aspect of having a diverse regional economy, because it would be useless to trade with neighbors if I can (or am forced to) hop over to Wall St. to buy/sell everything. Not to mention there can be massive surpluses that will render your city (and million other player's cities) useless if you are specialized in that industry.

Permalink Submitted by bradhart82 on Aug 30, 2012

I played cities xl for a while, the problem was that more people wanted to build a city with office buildings and high rises than people that wanted to build a small farm community or oil field. That created a massive unbalance in resources and made it nearly impossible to build a large city. Remember EA, it’s called SIM CITY not SIM FARM, or SIM OIL RIG, or SIM COAL MINE.

I'm a little disappointed with what appears to be a lot of building dropping. I miss the SC2000 days when you could zone your own airports and seaports. With all of the negative comments related to building dropping in Societies, I have to wonder WHY they would make it appear to be so prevalent in this game??? I really hope I'm wrong. I much prefer zoning and waiting to see what develops.

Permalink Submitted by samdeman22 on Sep 24, 2012

For the online to grow on people I hope that the game starts from a browser like battlefield 3 with battle log, its much faster than starting up the game if you just want to look at your stats or organize stuff with friends. And we all thought battlelog was a bad idea when we first saw it, I now wonder why every other multi player centralised games doesnt use it.

Permalink Submitted by samdeman22 on Sep 24, 2012

Also the name 'simcity' is fine, anyone who thinks this is going to be called simcity world or thinks it would be a good idea is wrong, simcity world is basically the name for the global market in simcity, not the name of the game. Also the fact that it's just called, simcity, makes me think that its like turning over a new leaf on simcity and not just adding to it. Why would anyone get confused between this game and a game that came out almost 30 years ago? Its like saying you'd confuse super Mario bros with the original.
