i hope graphics arent official one...

I agree with you,
The game is awesome, but some of the graphics in this video are in my point of view a little strange and a little ... childish.

I actually mean a little to childish

It's because only children care about graphics.

Exactly, adults certainly wouldn't be interested in excellent gameplay coupled with fantastic graphics. That would be absurd! It would be like seeing a grown man driving a luxury car. Who cars about performance and style when you can just have performance?

This post is brought to you by Sarcasm.

The reason so many games now have the depth of a spoon and the polish of a granite rockface is because they know everyone will buy anything if it is shinier than every game like it.

A game that will be released it will be released before trial and beta version first. You can see what kind of response from the public, and assess whether this picture could be a boom or not. jobs in stoke on trent

All people will usually try a trailer of a game first before buying the full version of the game. You can assess first whether the amount of money spent is appropriate or not. Buddhist Enlightenment

I think that's one of the most famous game in the world. And it seems like a real world.

I think they were going for a more 'cartoonish' style rather than realistic. I like the way it looks

Like I said before, they seem to be going for a cartoonish look, like everything was made of plastic. Having done alot of 3D modeling myself, I notice the way thus game seems to lack specular and bump maps (basically what makes things look shiny). Maybe that is what makes it look so cartoonish, and also the animation style looks very silly, for lack of a better word.

I'd say it looks whimsical... and i like it :) I've always found SimCity games interesting but they never held my attention for very long. But this one looks really fun. (I'm super-jazzed)

It's called stylized art. I for one think it is awesome. Graphics aren't about just looking as real as possible, it's about providing a unique experience. Sim City has developed it's own unique style and it looks absolutely fantastic imo. To each their own I suppose.

Agree. Hope that EA and Maxis focuses on SimCity as a City Simulation game, and not a game from The Sims series...

It would be cool if they could include drivable cars, ships, and planes like what was in the previous simcity 4. You could use them for trade and do missions such as flying passengers to other regions or for delivering cargo from ships and trains which could give your city a lot of money and rewards, or you could be a bad neighbor and crash in another city. Also, what if you were able to walk around your city through the eyes of a sim? Think about it... Maybe you could drive around in your limo to other cities negotiating trade. It would be great to do especially waiting for your city to earn money and grow.

I know right! That would be totally awesome!!!

Realy? I felt the driving missions in Rush Hour were my least favourite thing in that game, it took away from my city management time and the controls were clunky as well as the experience unrewarding (yeah I appreciate you get some cash but why not spend time managing your monthly budget by growing your city?

and that is what the DLC will be fore haha. they wont ship the game with everything. they want you to want more so when the DLC drops you will buy.

No worries. There is a disclaimer near the end that states images do not reflect actual gameplay.

Pre-Alpha (and even pre-Beta) graphics have *never*, in the last 2 decades of game development, been representative of the final graphics. When game developer design a game, they start with functionality and systems. Graphics, sound and other optimizations are the last things they do, before final touchup and production.

Hope it helps. :)

WTH i thought it looks boss

But in SimCity 4 you could rename buildings anyway... you could change the Large Medical Centre to St Devin the Violent Hospital for example. Surely this is kinda backwards? Ralph lauren pas cher

Personally I love it as is! Can't wait to play it devs, nice job! The graphics for me work great as I know how big and busy the cities will get. I can see them really feeling alive and like little models we can poke our fingers on :)

Never ceases to amaze me the typical spoiled child responses devs receive after media releases. Give them gold and instead they want diamonds.
Maxis, I am very excited with the work you are doing. It was worth staying up until 5:30 in the morning to see what you had to offer live at E3.
You've clearly taken some positive directions and I can already see in your videos that you've heard and made implementations with regards to some community feedback from SC4 which many of us still think is the peak of city simulation, and I think that is very promising. The footage looks like a polished product even at this early stage, regardless of a few bips and bumps that I'm sure you'll buff in the lead up to 2013. I can't wait to see what you can achieve in the next 8 months.

Excellent! I liked the HUGE Dino!
I am really looking forward to my first city! It's going to be a long hard wait, but totally worth it!

I couldn't agree more with Sc0rpy013...

Keep it up Maxis! True SimCity fans are rooting for you!

I totally dislike the aesthetic of the game. It's a kind of pixar toy, a little blur and color and voilà ! Plus, this is only the north american architecture. Too limited, too old gameplay style. (godzilla again wtf.) too bad.

Obvious hater is obvious. :]

What do you mean again? The last giant lizard in a Simcity game was in the very first one, and it was just a giant lizard, not a biped. Unless you count Bowser from the remake, but....do you really count that as a staple of the Simcity franchise?

EVERY Sim City game except for Sim City 4 has had a Godzilla that you can unleash on your city. Yes, it is definately a staple of the franchise.

The gameplay trailer looks great and all and I'm excited to play, but I have 2 concerns:
1 - The graphics do look a little childish (only making this comment because I didn't see a disclaimer in the video)
2 - All the little grassy areas between skyscrapers and buildings on curved or unaligned roads. Of course, I have no idea if you mean to confront that issue but it is an issue. You don't see grassy areas in developed cities, or at least if you do there's a park built or something is going on, it's not just empty grass. The game City Life had an acceptable solution to that.

Looks absolutely spectacular. I really would've loved to play this game. Now, just build in an offline mode (Which, seriously, can't be to hard to do. And I'm speaking as a computer developer myself!) and you've got yourself a sale.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I remember mentoring a middle school team in the Future City Competition in which Sim City is the foundation of the contest. Ever since then I've been hooked and I've found that it's a great way to educate kids on basic civic practices (ie. taxes, citizen protests, bonds, etc.) Glad to see an upgrade is coming. Can't wait!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Im really sad today i had the excitement of hearing about simcity and i was so glad to hear it after being a massive fan of the rest of the series and owning it i thought to myself what took them so long this is great news.

Then the massive hammer blow about all this online stuff why i love the idea of a Multiplayer experience and think its a really good idea (and i would have defiantly engaged in it) i have found my self at a cross road, the thing is i want what i loved from the rest of the series the Singleplayer.

I loved being able to make my own region (simcity4) and most of all i love basically being god and then going into city mode that was fun and why i understand the Devs are trying to push the game into the modern times that doesn't mean they should forget what made the game great.

you ask anyone who is a true fan or even casual player of the series and they will tell you that the bread and butter of this game has been and should remain to be the Singleplayer so about that cross road i find my self walking down the path of not buying this game and for Three simple reasons.

1]The Horrible Drm of Orgin

2]the sad fact that they are not currently planning on making a single player (Please devs if your reading this i am begging with you to listen to reason and implement a single player before its to late)

3]Because how this game stands at the moment my copy of simcity 4 is better so why would i buy this

So please game Devs if your reading this go back to the drawing board now and implement a Singleplayer please don't remove the already great and exciting stuff your doing but also don't remove what the fans want Singleplayer

(ps lets just look at this from a business point of view your isolating a massive section of your audience meaning less money made doesn't make much sense does it)

They have already said, several times, that the game supports SOLO and MULTIPLAYER. That means you CAN play solo.

This looks really good, I've loved watching the videos about how the GlassBox simulator worked and I can't wait to play the game based on that alone. Couple in some updated graphics and an intriguing multiplayer environment and you got yourself a fun game.

At least, let's hope this is better than when they did Societies. How I wish for the technology to erase memories of that horrible game!

Maxis didn't do Societies

But EA (the parent company) did....It was an attempt to satiate us and it didn't work.

But where is the love? That.. coziness. All the details that made SC4 feel so alive? Where are all the beautiful gardens? It's just grass around the houses. And all those monochrome, dead building facades.. I couldn't care less for cool camera angles if it means losing that much of detail. All the things that made you care for your city. I guess I just hoped for something else.. The gameplay engine looks promising, though.

Have some faith in the Devs, Simcity is still far away from release. It's kind of hard to judge though from just one video, i'm sure they'll polish it up more but I guess it's good to voice one opinions. I don't know if we can even make the slightest impact just by commenting, do Devs even read theses comments, if so, hopefully they know many are very supportive right now. Maybe they'll release a beta in the following months?? That can only benefit everyone...

I agree.. I was reading some comments here wondering if i am the only one who thinks the same way..
I feel afraid that this game looks more like Cities XL (example..) and not like SC4. I really think that it is not a good idea to make a totally 3D game bcoz we already have this on market. I expected that the new SC had the atmosphere of SC4, hard to describe but, from these videos it is completely different, which scares me :S

I was expecting a game that followed a philosophy closer to what Blizzard did with SC2, a view from the sky, not that fancy, preserving the essence of what Simcity has always been. Now, changing it completely, not sure if it is a good idea at all. Though the new engine looks really promising!!

Everyone who says that the graphics are terrible really hasn't been paying attention to anything said in the blog to date. The game is still, at core, about the simulation, not creating your own perfectly detailed universe where everything is a carbon copy of real life except you are God-Mayor Awesome McPants. I mean sure, they COULD have used perfectly lifelike textures, but think of the performance hit of resizing and wrapping all those textures in perfect 3D...

I for one think this looks perfect. As someone who's father has repeatedly built and rebuilt a model railway with the plastic buildings and using old carpet for grass, this is exactly what you expect from a model that you control. Only this is always going to be better because everything moves, interacts, and you can move and interact with them. (The only drawback, maybe, that there's no actual tactile interface.) - So yes, you can bemoan the graphics, but I think they're amazing.

You know, I would probably buy this game...but I'm not and I won't as long as it uses Origin.
I think I'm up to 8 games now that I haven't bought because that.

I just hope it wont lag -_-
