Anticipation Builder: Maxis Live Broadcast
Next week is a big week for SimCity! Why? Because on October 9, 2012 at 10am PST (don’t worry – there’ll be a replay!) we’re going to be a part of the first ever Maxis Live Broadcast where you'll hear from both the SimCity and The Sims 3 development teams. Best part, Mayors? The Maxis Live Broadcast will be the exclusive destination for the world premiere of live SimCity gameplay! You know what that means, right? We are playing the game live. So if you've wanted to see SimCity in action, this is the event for you. Make sure to sign-up for the event here.
In addition to showing off live gameplay for the first time, we’ll also be conducting a Q&A session during the broadcast where we’ll be answering questions directly from fans like you. Don’t miss this opportunity to not only see the game, but also the chance to speak directly with the Maxis team. Got a question? Write it in the comment section below and we’ll pick a few to answer during the broadcast in addition to all the ones we receive live. Keep in mind, since we’re still hard at work building the game, there’s some topics we won’t be able to address at this time. But we’ll do our best to answer what we can!
Don’t want to wait a week to see gameplay? Well, you don’t have to. This Thursday we’ll be releasing our first gameplay walkthrough video narrated by Lead Designer Stone Librande. As you know, there are many ways to play SimCity–from population growth to acquiring the most wealth—in the latest video Stone offers hints and tips for players interested in learning about building out a big business in the game. Check back here on Thursday to see the game before we show it off live to the world on October 9.

I have a question will their be water in the game, because so far except in concept art I haven't seen any oceans or rivers. But I love what I have seen so far in the game and I am excited for its release.

I wanted to know if they
I wanted to know if they would keep the "make historical" option on each building. Since there is no zoning level, eventually, your entire map is going to become a pile of skyscrapers, right? So I'm hoping we can make buildings historical so that we can keep the buildings we want.
Good question, imo. Hope it
Good question, imo. Hope it gets asked.
I have a few question,first
I have a few question, first off will roundabouts be featured in the game?
And will you still be able to micromanage civic buildings more than just turn them on/off?
Love the game so far, looks amazing
I wonder, could you use curvy
I wonder, could you use curvy roads to make your own roundabouts?
Roundabout is just "circled
Roundabout is just "circled one-way-rodad". The true question is "Will one-way-roads be featured in the game?"
Yeah, that, haha...
Yeah, that, haha...
One way streets make a lot of practical sense, since they can organize cross-street traffic, and alleviate congestion.
Not entirly true. Most
Not entirly true. Most roundabouts dont have traffic lights. (some do but work in a differant way than normal juctions). So you cant build a true roundabout with curvey roads when the roads joining it will have traffic lights
What will the loading time be
What will the loading time be when switching cities in a region you control entirely? Can you complete Great Works using only cities you control yourself? Do great works have 'plopables' we can out in out cities or in the space between cities? What will the gameplay be like if you run a region on your own?
What level of multiplayer is SimCity? Can you see neighbouring cities whilst playing your own? Is it live? What happens when someone makes a connection to your city whilst your playing?
How many regions will there be? How many cities in each region will there be? What is the maximum and minimum size of cities?
Does the world market have limited resources? If so what will that mean on release day? If everyone buys coal from the World Market will coal run out entirely? If the World Market has unlimited resources how does selling to it affect the price of the commodity?
Can we drive around the cities? Is there a slider to vary the extent of tilt-shift as I like tilt-shift but not as much as I've seen in some screenshots? Can we import houses made in the sims 3 into simcity?
Will there be AI cities so that we can play on our own but not control all the cities in a region? What happens in multiplayer if you're trying to make a really good city but the other player is messing about trying to make the most polluting region he can? Will there be ways to kick players out? Will there be groups so you can say if you're playing seriously or just for fun? Are there quick start regions with some prebuilt cities?
What happens to cities when we're not playing the game? Do they stay as we left them or will the have changed? Does this depend on whether you play a region on your own on with another player?
Can we make inter-region connections? I'd like to build up several egions and make trades between them.
That's all I can think of for now. I hope some of them can be answered!
SimCity, based on what info
SimCity, based on what info they've released so far:
Is always multi-player, in that resource prices are driven by the world market (at it's minimum). The level of interactivity goes to playing in the same region, and working with one or more other mayor to build a Great Work.
So far the max city size is to be 2 sq km. (The size of a medium city in SC4)
The world market will work much like the real market. The more the coal, the cheaper the price. The rarer the coal, the steeper the price. If the price is high, it's wise to sell coal at that time.
The rest, I'll leave to Maxis or someone else better informed than I.
Math Error: City tile size is
Math Error: City tile size is 2048m*2048m = 4194304 sq. m ~ 4 sq. km. Small city tile size isn't a problem when tiles are connected border-to-border. But they aren't.

will there be overpasses,
will there be overpasses, oneway roads?
Will the metro in the game?
Will the metro in the game?
Must we play with only one
Must we play with only one region, or can we play with, for example, five regions (not simultaneously) in the same PC?
How many tram and bus lines can we do?
How many stations can a bus or tram line have got?
Is it possible to know what's the life expentancy or the IQ in my city/region like in SimCity 4?
Very important: why there's not Spanish buildings? We have a lot of very beautiful buildings here in Spain! Europe is not only a tower with a clock or a strange tower with four legs! lol
Will be there modern tramways, buses ans trains? (with modern I say: like in Spain)
Can we pay to schools,hospitals,... like in SC4? (choosing the maximum number of students, patients...)
Can we select the number and color of the bus and tram lines?
Will be posters in game in English or in Simlish?
Can we choose the name of our regions?
Can we create new regions, or it will be always the same regions?
Will be any city built?
SORRY FOR MY POOR ENGLISH
It's all. Thank you
Will the missions from
Will the missions from simcity 4 return where you need to frive certain vehicles and accomplish certain tasks? I wasn't too fond of them in the last game but it'd be cool in this game because of the 3D camera views. I feel like you could make these kinds of missions first person and that would really make my city feel super real
I'm very excited about the
I'm very excited about the gameplay on its way!
One quick question: although I like the move towards more info graphic methods of displaying data, will graphs and charts make an appearance in the game? I think they can be very useful tools for examining historical progressions in one's city. Also, they're just fun to look at!
Great work, guys and gals! I've been mayoring since before I knew how to spell, so needless to say, I'm stoked!
Maxis i'm super excited about
Maxis i'm super excited about the new Sim City. I think you guys have done a great job making the game your own while keeping the flavor of the original.
I'm curious though. Where will great works be in relation to my city? Obviously i can somehow build connecting highways to them as you mention it in your blog, but are they going to ambiguously "exist" in the region? Will their be a section in each region dedicated to great works that's placed in a central location? Or will their be a "host" city, which would probably be the one that initiated the work.
Question: Do you plan to make
Question: Do you plan to make a sandbox mode and/or money cheats for those who do not want all the financial stress?
Will players need to place
Will players need to place power cables in their cities?
How will the single player
How will the single player and multi player parts of the game going to be separated or fused? Will players be able to play without an internet connection after they have their game installed?
Their is no single player,
Their is no single player, and therefore, not separation. Cities are played individually, but are affected by other cities in the region, which can be played by either yourself or another player. An internet connection will always be required to start the game, and save a game (games are saved to the cloud for the sake of multi-player, and probably also for the sake of limiting pirating)
Now that the game is finally
Now that the game is finally being shown, you guys must have finalised the city size, Could you please share with us the size of the city? can we create large sized cities (if we have high end PCs?)
I'm ready to buy a new PC for the sake of the game, I will reduce the display quality if I have to but I ( & many others) need large maps. Hope you answer this...
They've hinted at larger
They've hinted at larger cities (possibly), but so far the city size is 2 sq km (medium size in SC4). Here's hoping they get bigger.
I hope they're larger than
I hope they're larger than the largest maps in SC4, or that they start a bit smaller and you can 'buy' more. And, but with limited purchases available.
Buy more land. Sorry
Buy more land. Sorry
Where are the highways
Where are the highways/interstates with off/on ramps
Hope so
Hope so
You previously stated that we
You previously stated that we do not directly control zoning density as in previous SimCity games. Are we able to restrict higher density if we choose? For example, if there's an area with high traffic and larger roads present but we don't want medium or high density to develop, can we somehow prevent that?
How much customisation is
How much customisation is there in designing our own unique parks for our cities?
Just a couple more questions:
Just a couple more questions: can we perform a 'census' on our city - for example by dividing areas of the city into districts and determining which district is most populous, dense, wealthy etc, and can we name our districts and streets and parks and whatnot?
online-only, smaller maps,
online-only, smaller maps, huge spaces between the cities in the region, no subways, inability to terraform, inability to make your own regional connections...you want to explain why you are doing all of these things that everyone is complaining about? I bet you talk about curvy roads a lot...
Can't wait to see another
Can't wait to see another "unrealistic and un-SC4 flaw" the haters are going to sensationalize about! :D
Cirugo... You are a pathetic,
Cirugo... You are a pathetic, complaining, idiot who can't shut-up.
Watch, He'll probably come verbalize me with opinions; you know why? Because he can't shut-up.
While in a more commiserating
While in a more commiserating spirit, I too, would like to hear Maxis address these issues more in-depth. Not because I'm a 'hater', but because some of it seems arbitrary. Other parts of it limit what we know, and it seems somewhat unnecessary. I don't see it unreasonable for fans of the most popular SimCity to date to ask why some of the features, that have in the past been seen as innovative steps forward, to be removed for the sake of different fun, instead of added upon?
Question for live broadcast:
Question for live broadcast:
When can we play it ourself? (BETA) :-)
But you already played the
But you already played the pre-alpha! :P
Will you be able to randomly
Will you be able to randomly generate terrain for your region, like in Simcity 3000?
Will their be highways in the
Will their be highways in the game? If yes, will their be highway interchanges? And my last question, will there be subways in the game?
Will there be expansions/add
Will there be expansions/add-on packs to cater for extra features (such as subways or a larger map, for example) that you feel there is a demand for?
Can you hurry with the beta (and ensure I get to play!), please?
What happens with that pesky
What happens with that pesky extra triangular space left over when putting a square building into a triangular hole (block); Is there a plopable that can be placed there, like a park, or hot dog stand, or something?
1) In regard to agents/sims
1) In regard to agents/sims and mass transit: how do busses and trams determine their destination? Are the routes pre-defined, such as by the player? If not, what if agents on board have destinations in different parts of town; how do the busses/trams prioritize their destinations and routes? Do they attempt to reroute if an accident blocks their path?
2) Can we expect more tilesets in the future? Might we pick and choose our loaded tilesets so that we could, say, have a city comprised exlusively of traditional Japanese shoin-zukuri style and ultramodern Dubai structures?
3) Will larger (3*3+km) city tiles be available? Might there be a way to 'expand' the default 2*2 tile aside from linking to other cities?
4) Will the game feature agriculture, either as a zone or a resource?
5) I'm a suburban planner at heart; I love trams, but don't want a city that relies heavily on avenues/bigger roads. Can we build tram stations independant of avenues?
6) How extreme of map features can we expect? I picture cities built on massive cliff ridges, tiny island towns, cities at the bottom of craters, etc!
Thanks, - Serentropic
