My very first Sim city was the SNES version,
I remember the slow moving cursor placing your blocks on this amazing music this version had. Looking at my buildings rising and mixing with near blocks to make a super large one under the snow was quite satisfying. Also seeing my stadium always playing without stopping, was guessing if the players were some kind of super-soldier braving the seasons (yep seasons was an eye-delight)

Sim city 4 was the one that glued me to the screen the most, i loved to see my building rising slowly under construction to make the labor worth the deal, also seeing the airport constructing slowly was the most satisfying thing i ever encountered, like a countdown before the opening of the proudness of my city to my neighborhood, showing me accomplishing a gate to the other, that took time and energy to make, it is so much rewarding after it's done to see how many time you have done it. This should stay in, and would love to see stadium, airport, port, landmark, constructing slowly and not just popping out on a click, which is a huge disappointment.

I started with SimCity Creator for the Nintendo DS in 2008, after finding interest in it thanks to the United States Presidential Campaign, after a year and a half I got SimCity Creator for the Nintendo Wii, but after not getting enough from both games, I decided to try SimCity 4 (though I was drawn away from it at first due to it's kind of bland looks) in July 2010.

I saw peoples CJ's on Simtropolis and I was then very motivated to buy the game. As soon as I go it I fell in love with the game, especially with the mods and buildings that people had made on the site. I still love the game to this day.

I had Sim City MS-DOS on a 286 Intel, it was SO cool, I just remember losing many hours to this game, Also forgot to do homework sometimes.. I got the game in 1990.. I have always liked Sim City Games, Ones made by Maxis (SimCitySocieties EXCLUDED,that game was pure garbage) I only hope the new sim city brings back what I loved about the game to begin with, endless fun, and city management, I would also like CheatHappens to come out with trainers so I could have infinite Cash.. But not until After I played through scenarios at least once.. I hope SC2013 has scenarios, like international city issues, riots, enconomic catastrophies, One 2 cities I also had in mind were New Orleans (Katrina) Joplin, MO (Massive Tornado) other than that I would leave the other cities up to Maxis. I still play Sc2k, and SC4.. I can't put down good games, even after this 2013 release.. MAXIS always makes the best games, hands down.

My first simcity was Simcity 4. When I first started my city, I was in a difficult situation my city has a very low standard economy but when I started to read blogs tips and legal ways to boom my city in web, my city slowly became a massive metropolitan. My economy booms! financial capacity is big, city's crime is very low, but one problem is the environment, so I changed my electrical resources one by one, and converting streets to roads, roads to avenues, avenues to highways, and highways to superhighways and planting trees on the side most of the roads. And when the deluxe version comes out, My city for me was the most outstanding city ever making it a center of everything of trade, lifestyle, education, and a lot more. I can't wait for the upcoming simcity with high-end graphics and sharing your city on the web. And one thing I hope EA will develop very sooner a Globe or a world that grows and expands endlessly as how players expand their cities where you can choose a place and settle a city with moderate situation and no cheats, hacks or any world bias of presenting your city to the world and have special events or ocassions to heat up the game. :D

I remember playing simcity 2000 when i was like 7 or so and then when simcity 3000 came out my dad gave me the idea to buy it and so i did and i was hooked from that moment on. I even bought simcity societies but that wasnt a maxis version hense the let down for all the true simcity fans so ive been waiting ever so long as well as others to have maxis make the next great simcity in the franchise and bring it to a whole new level of realism.

Oh the good times I've had. I started with Sim City 3000. I had seen my older brothers playing it and i thought it looked pretty neat. I got my own copy and started building. I remember at the time that most every city i built would come to an immediate disaster. I would try to provide more for the general public than i could afford. The environment, safety, energy, water, education, were usually the highest possible. This usually brought me to extreme debt. My final 'get out on top' plan would usually be to just annihilate the entire city with the disasters. Sim City 4 became an amazing turnover for me. My cities would be nearly perfect except for my budget. It would usually hover in the survivable region. Here recently i started back up with Sim City 4 and it's expansion. My cities have the highest education, and lot's of traffic. My budget is usually a wonderful positive 5,000 or more. I love Sim City. I just wish this new one could come sooner. I'm going to be too busy with life by the time it comes. I'll be sure to buy and basically have no life beyond it's release. Keep up the good work Maxis. I'll be waiting. I just hope it's not required to have internet. I really hope that there could be some sort of LAN implementation. It's be fun to play Sim City with someone more local.

The Amiga version of the original SimCity was one of my first versions. IIRC, I upgraded to 1MB at the same time, so I could play the 1MB version instead of the 512K version. I cannot begin to imagine how many hundreds of hours I played, eventually guided with the strategy guide by Computer Gaming World's Johnny Wilson. That was one of the first strategy guides, and I still have it somewhere. I've played the "real" SimCitys since: 2000, 3000, and 4. With Rush Hour and the NAM mod, 4 is my favorite. I love playing transportation director far more than mayor.

Same here, I love managing my transport. Hope it's going to be realistic, seeing agents actually going in and out without any fading. I really wish Maxis master the transport system in this game, that would be the most amazing thing ever. I wish also that planes got a purpose going somewhere, such as everyother transport. I hope they will show us plane routes too.

Yes when I was 9 (now I'm 13) I got sim city4 I fell in love with it right away I ditched my xbox360 for 3 months playing it I never got to far every time my city started getten bigger I'd send big robot dudes down and kill every one poor poor nightmares peds going around and around I had to kill them so I'm hoping I don't need to kill the new sims sorry for going off topic

I originally got Sim City 3000 Unlimited. I had no idea how to play it and left it alone for 2 years. I came back and I think the most rewarding part was actually seeing development in my cities.(At first I did not know the stuff about zoning) Great game and I also play Sim City 4. For some reason I find myself returning to 3000 Unlimited. I thing the charm and humor is unparalleled. The ticker and the Jazz music. I could play that game for hours.

• SimCity 2000 for Windows (Started playing when I was 8, I'm now 26)

I remember I saw my sister playing it, and I was so intruiged cause the game looked SO DETAILED for its time. The first thing that caught my eye was the tiny chopper that was flying around.

Eventually, I found myself tinkering the game for hours on end. While building my city, I kept zooming in the view and imagining what would it be like if I lived in my creation. I didn't care too much about disasters though, 'cause the only thing that they did was demolish buildings - I could've just taken the demolish tool and clicked the hell out of everything, and it will still feel like it's a disaster. I remember I always wanted to have the highest population among my city neighbors. It was quite annoying though that sometimes a computer can beat me. After a while, I wanted to see what the endgame exodus looks like, so I made lots of Launch Arcologies. But unfortunately, I got tired of it 'cause the process was being repetitive, I never got my prize. :(

I also remember I always built a marina, even if it means that I have to make a lake just a few blocks wide. It was fun waiting for the lochness monster eat the little yachts.

• Jump to SimCity 4 (I was 17)

I wanted to buy 3K cause I liked 2K so much, but I never did buy it 'cause my PC sucked then. I purposefully upgraded my unit when SC4 got released.

First impression: Cool graphics! Oh look, individual sims and cars! But when I got the game: The mechanics and rules changed.. Omg, this is confusing! This is how you zone now?? The tutorial was barely any help. My buildings would get abandoned so quickly! Though I eventually got the hang of it after a few weeks of trial and error = No guide reading.

Disasters were fun to use during the start. But in essence, it was still like SC2K's - just a glamoured way to demolish buildings.

Sadly though, for some reason, the process of building the city wasn't that enganging compared to SC2K. Not sure why... The user-made mods definitely added more variety. But for some reason, it still felt boring even when I added them to my game. Sometimes I think I'm too old for this game already.

I still play SC4 once in a while when there's nothing else to do though. But yeah, the replay value is as good as gone.

My first experience was with Sim City on SNES. My friend down the street had it (all I had was a GameBoy!) and we played it all the time. Actually, I should say he played it all the time and I watched. After that, I got SC2000 on my parents' computer, so now I finally got to play, and play I did! He would sit on the piano bench next to me in the nice swivel chair, but the funny thing was, the game was so fun that he actually did enjoy watching almost as much as playing.

After that I went through SC3000, Societies (blah), and finally SC4. I still play SC4 to this day and have been able to sufficiently spice it up with the help of STEX. I have literally had dreams of a new Sim City, and longingly look forward to its release!

My first SimCity experience was with the SimCity 2000 way back. At that time I did not understand much of the game but after learning a bit to what was going on, I slowly started building my city. And once my city started growing, I was really excited! It was such a feeling of accomplishment to see something being build right before my eyes which I created.

After that I got SimCity 3000 and man I was impressed. The graphics were so much nicer and colorful, the music was great and the sound effects really made it look as if I was building a real city. I loved the advisors and petitioners and the game had such charm and humor about it, it’s hard to forget even to this day. Then after that I got SimCity 4 and even for an old timer like me it was hard in the beginning to stay in black. Then slowly I started building my cities and then finally mastered all the skills. And now when I look to the entire user created content people have made, it’s just amazing! People have put to so much time and soul in their work it’s just remarkable.

After SimCity 4 I wondered where the series would go next. No counting Societies, (that was crap) I wanted to have cities which would react in real way to the decisions I made. I wanted to make dams, rivers, waterfalls, forests and what not. I want to see real time weather effects, real life buildings, more charm and humor which Maxis game always had. So for me, SimCity 2000 will always have a special place in my heart. Maybe because it was the first game I played or just pure nostalgia. But still the charm which these games have just cannot be forgotten, and I hope the series just gets even better from here on.

My first sim city game was sim city 3000, then I started playing sim city 3000 World Edition (same as Unlimited) and after that sim city 4. I still play them all, most sc3000 and sc4. In my opinion, Simcity 3000 had the best gameplay music ever. I liked the simcity world edition music too, but I missed the tune "SIM Broadway" and "Concrete Jungle". Sim city 3000 is probably my favorite simcity ever. When I started playing computer games When I was about 4 years, (I am 14 now) sim city 3000 was the game I liked most.

The original Sim City on the PC in the 80's. With the red/black code pamphlet to prevent photocopying/stealing of the game. Unfortunately it also made it hard to read for those of us who have problems differentiating dark colors. I've been hooked ever since.

I have to laugh a little at folks calling Sim 2k "way back"... given when I started.. No offense, it's just pretty funny, making me feel old.

I can't remember how I managed to teach myself on how to play SC2K, maybe because most of the game elements were self-explanatory. The only annoying problem that I can recall are the military and airport zones, 'cause I couldn't make them grow. Until I accidentally laid a stretch of powerlines right across the said zones, only then did the buildings grew, which was as a pleasant surprise.

Like many, my first Sim City experience came on the Super Nintendo back when the system came out. I never owned the game but my friend and I rented it so often from the local video store that we were able to build our own mega cities over a period of time, and knock out the scenarios as best we could. I think we may have been the only two people renting the game at our store!

But my fondness for the SNES version drove me to Sim City 2000 on my computer, and I was quick to buy the Urban Renewal Kit so I could try and modify buildings to my liking and add in new building sets. It was awesome. I even asked for Sim Copter one year so I could fly around my Sim City 2000 cities, which I thought was so groundbreaking at the time. Fly around in MY cities? Surely this was opening the door to some fantastic game play elements in future versions (it was!).

I have since bought Sim City 3000 and Sim City 4 and even went so far as to add my own Sims in to the game but now that I am a Mac user it looks like my Sim City days have come to an end.

Played EVERY PC version of the game! I remember the first time I played Sim City 1 and unleashing the lizard attack upon my quiet little city. Perhaps my most amazing achievement was when I hit 1-million people in Sim City 4. Hell that was the laggiest city ever!

All the SimCity games are good in their own way, but the one that got me really hooked was SimCity 4.

Seeing a game series get better, and not worse, as it progresses, is a rarity nowadays. The fourth SimCity topped all the previous ones in almost every way.

The following are few reasons why SimCity 4 captivated me personally so much:

1. Music, music, music. What can I say? It was epic. It set the atmosphere perfectly. It gave a feeling of awe-inspiring grandiosity. It made the cities feel alive.

2. Flexible terrain editor. It was very satisfying sculpting the land however I pleased. From volcano islands, to rolling green hills, to rocky mountains, to sprawling forests. I could make it. This made me so much more invested in my cities, seeing as I created even the very foundation upon which they were built.

3. In depth management system. I loved managing and learning all the little details and charts about my city. This gave the game a level of depth (not to mention immersion) that made me want to go back and play just one more city to see how the variables and arrangement could be tweaked the next time around.

4. Aesthetics. The game was very pretty and pleasing to the eye. The modding community also contributed vastly to the beauty of the game. This area is usually underestimated, but I feel that the right art style and level of detail could in some cases make or break a game.

5. Details! I loved the little easter eggs and details in the game. Little things like air gliders flying around went a long way in making the cities feel like living, breathing, places. I would love to see more of this in the next installment of SimCity. Just little things like people walking their dogs, surfers on the beach, skydivers, and rock climbers would give the game that much more personality. It would also intrigue the player to zoom around the city to see what activities his little Sims are performing.

6. Transportation. I don't know if I'm the only one here who loved to play with toy trains when I was a little kid, but every SimCity game awoke that little locomotive engineer in me. There were a decent amount of transportation options in SimCity 4, although I do feel that a lot more could be done in the future installment of SimCity.

7. Mods. This speaks for itself. The amount of extra content that has been added to the game through the modding community is enormous. SimCity 4 is still going strong almost a decade later. You just don't see this with many other games. I firmly believe that flexibility and customizability can give a game potentially endless replay value and lifespan, especially a simulation sandbox like SimCity.

I first played SimCity for SNES when I was a kid, but fell in love when I got a copy of Simcity For Windows on my spiffy Intel 486! I didn't get into 2000 and 3000 much, but I still play the hell out of SimCity 4 Deluxe.

I can't wait for this new instalment of Sim City! I'm so glad you're going all out simulation instead of watering the gameplay down. I was sold on that fact, and also heavily on the multiplayer. Can't wait to get my hands on this, looks beautiful, guys!

First time i played SimCity was With SimCity 3000, I struggled with it but once I got the system of zones, power, and water down, I was hooked. I loved how diverse and creative the game was with tons of futuristic and classic styled buildings.

I moved on to SimCity 4 and longed for some features that SC3K had like the unusual styles of power plants like Microwave and Fusion. SC4 just seemed too generic and straightforward compared to the creativity SC3K had.

I found out about SimCity 2000 and gave it a shot, and loved screwing around with the arcos and such. And then destroying it with the good ol four legged metal monster.

I hope SC5 or SC5K contains the same randomness and fun the previous games offered.

First SimCity on my Amiga 500. Hours spent on building the city, usually an island map and then adding terrain by building crossroads... OK, i had to add some FUNDS from time to time ;) i can admit that today.
Then i gave up because of my computers being to slow for SC2000 and others and i didn't like the interface change... Yeah. So my next SimCity was 4, then of course RH.
Today i opened the box after 1.5 year to take the disc and play but it's not there :( So i opened my browser and googled for SC5 just in case it's ready to order. :(

I have been a fan of SimCity since Day 1

I remeber when i was young i would go to my best friends house who had a Mac. with SimCity on it, i would spent hours with him playing that game

When the game became available on the SNES i had to own it right away, it was diferent from the computer version but it was mostly for the better and i lost countless hours to that game

I have since owned and played all of the simcity games, 2000, 3000 Unlimited, 4 and...... Let's not mention Societies.....Yes i did own it but it quickly made its way out of my house as it was HORRIBLE

My Favorite is SimCity 4 as the graphiques and options were just awesome, it has sucked hours upon hours from my life as not only did i build one city, but cities around that city to help support my main city

Maxis, when i heard that you guys were working on a new Simcity title, i was worried that you were going to be moving in the same way as Societies, trying to make an awesome game WAY to simple for people who can't handle Simcity.... but so far i am loving what i am seeing, can't wait to add this title to my collection

When I was 5.I have the first SimCity which is SimCity 3000.The first time I was confused about the Gameplay then I leave SimCity. Then in 7,I play SimCity 4,I very bad in managing the city so I always borrow cash modal in the bank. Then I back to 3000 and I play it for an hours. Then I buy the societies which one of me hates game ever.Which decide me to buy the unlimited version of 3000.Which I play from Primary 5 until 6.Then I never have SimCity Game.I very excited when Maxis(the original SimCity creator) announce the newest game at GDC 2012 and SimCity(2003) became my second anticipated game behind Command&Conquer Generals 2

My first experience with Sim City was all the way back in 1992. I didn't know what I was doing, but thankfully Dr. Wright kept me on the right track. Soon I figured out how to logically lay zones to make people the happiest I could, I dealt with traffic problems by never laying a single bit of road in the first place. I had a sprawling city with railroad transit, plenty of amenities in the form of rewards and over the course of a summer, I was able to create a megalopolis.

I had nowhere else to build, nothing more I could strive for, so I took the next logical step to building my city. I released disaster after disaster, watching my beautiful creation turn into a pile of rubble before my eyes! I had so much fun playing that game, and of that green haired adviser running back and forth across the screen every time something went wrong.

My first experience with Sim City was playing the Super Nintendo version. I finally convinced my mom to buy it for me because she was going away for the weekend and leaving me at grandma's house. To keep me happy, she took me to Kmart and bought me a copy on Friday night after school. The only catch was that I couldn't play it until Sunday evening when my mom picked me up and brought me back home. I spent that entire weekend reading every page in the instruction manual (yes, games had full colour instruction manuals at one time). For that weekend, Dr. Wright was my best friend and I was riveted reading all of his tips and tricks. Everything from zoning in "doughnut holes" to all of the gifts and how to achieve them. After all that anticipation, I finally got home and played it. I stayed up way too late and had the time of my life! It was as awesome as I was expecting.

Ever since I've been a total SimCity junkie. I'm glad there's finally going to be a new one but I will miss the "spreadsheets" of data present in previous titles.

My first time playing SimCity was when I was a youngster, I borrowed a copy of SC2000 from the computer lab and tried to install it on my ancient computer...

SimCity on the SNES in, probably, 1993. The Mario statue was about the greatest accomplishment in video gaming to that day, and having Bowser destroy your city one of the most darkly joyful moments in gaming. Graduated to SimCity 2000 soon after, and purchased 3000 and 4 on the days they were released. I still fire up SimCity 4 pretty often, building on my custom map of Milwaukee.

My first experience with SimCity was when I was in 7th or 8th grade, about 13 years ago. Someone had loaded SimCity 2000 on one of the computers in our classroom, and after playing for a little while I was completely hooked. We didn't have a good computer in our home at the time, so I ended up getting a copy of the original version which I played quite a bit, but it wasn't until we upgraded to a newer machine that could run SimCIty 3000 that I really got into it. When I found out that there had been a SNES version, I found a copy and played that quite a bit too. I got SC4 the day it came out. Very, very excited for the new version.

I don’t really recall how I stumbled upon SimCity on my late teenagers years, but the first version I played was SimCity 2000 and played uncountable hours, I was just fascinated with the sandbox concept, felt in control of the plot and the storyline, then 3000 came along and the graphics just pull me into the game even more; when SC4 came out I bought a PC specifically to run the game, then I realized I was a hardcore gamer; with SC4 it came also the Region concept, that was a revolution for me, I was the happier gamer ever, jumping from city to city, making them to “work” together and Rush Hour was just the final touch, now the traffic going from one city to another was not a problem anymore, then, when I got tired of playing on the predesigned regions I made my own, but at this point I started to really miss the tool to make rivers and waterfalls from previous editions, I mean the water is not always at sea level, which by the way this is really a feature that I would love to see coming back and also I really hope that the Region concept is restricted to only on-line more and I can play it just as in SC4.

Really excited for this game, I can’t wait to read more about it or play with it.

I meant to say:

"I really hope that the Region concept NOT is restricted to only on-line mode and I can play it just as in SC4"

My first Simcity experience is hard to recall, given that I was probably eight at the time, at the oldest, with Simcity on the old MSDOS 386 i had back in the day.

I only really got into the series with Simcity 2000, for windowss, which I would play with a friend of mine in the laziest and dumbest kind of multiplayer that was possible. We still had a lot of fun trying to make the cities not die in misery and trying to work together to make something that wasn't awful.

That moment when we were first able to lay down a Plymoth arco, so ugly and so polluting, but worth every hour of play!

Simcity 3 wasn't really that hot and Simcity 4 is something I play every few months to remember the old days. I hope the new game is fun and not too heavy on the micro, and i want to thank maxis as a whole for consistently producing fun games.

I have two stories:
1. I don't remember my first city. It likely died a horrible death, but I definitely remember my favorite. My pride and joy. It was a city unlike any I had built before or even tried to build since. It was in SimCity 2000. It was a tropical city built on a coast. It was dominated by a large volcano in one corner that was part of a mountain chain that bisected the city. The western half of the map was ocean with a few islands. The main city was carved out of the mountainside with windy roads and tunnels including the main tunnel that went through the mountains to the eastern part of the city on the other side. I thought I had safely located the microwave power plants off the coast on an island. Sadly disaster struck and burned up a good portion of my city but we rebuilt, bigger and stronger. Also switched to Fusion in 2050.
My other favorite moment came from Simcity 3000. I was working on building the "perfect metropolis". I was focused on building up one part of the city and completely neglected an entire portion of Old Town. My Dad came and asked to see my city. I took him on a tour and realized there was a large section of abandon homes and dilapidated buildings. He asked about it and I told him I had neglected it and it likely didn't have adequate access to city services. And he looked at me and says, "So, you basically created the hood???" That was 12 years ago. My Dad STILL laughs about that to this day.

I've been playing Simcity since the original game on the SNES, then moved on to SimCity 2000 in the mid 90's and then SimCity 3000 in the late 90s. But the most memorable moment as a SimCity mayor was creating my first region in SimCity 4. I recreated my hometown, the San Gabriel Valley, the suburbs located west of Los Angeles. My region included cities like Pasadena, Alhambra, West Covina, El Monte and Pomona. I've worked on that region for almost 10 years. Even to this day, I go back and tweak certain things. I loved building that region, mantaining each and every city, and naming every street, every park, every school and hospital. No other game could provide you 10 years of fun like SimCity 4 did. It's simply the best!

I purchased my first IBM PC in 1985. It was supposed to be for serious stuff - and it was - until SimCity came out about 4 years later. The first version I played was on floppy disks, and you could even switch to different 'animations' - like an oriental theme and a futuristic theme. I remember being totally fascinated with an "industrial zone" converting to rice paddies in the oriental theme. Either my imagination was really good or there really were little worker people with hoes. I loved that game, got hooked, and also got many other people involved in city building.

I love to build a city then make choas infold. Thats the most fun and rewarding thing ever. I also hope that there will be a lot of natural disasters in the game. (More than fire) And also some fantasy disasters.

I grew up with Sim City. I was 15 when the first one came out. It's seems like ancient history now but I played Sim City on IBM XT Clone running a whopping 8Mhz. It had a "Paper White" 12" monitor but that didn't matter. I remembered having to look up city populations on a blue and red card in order to start the game [ahh the world of early copywrite protection]. I played that game until the sun rose so many times. I had some kind of floating point error so I called tech support and got some guy named Will....no, couldn't have been. I lived in the rural US and developed a certain style to building and zoning. My good friend, an exchange student from Bogota Columbia, had a very different style. I did not see the game in color until '93 when, as I recall Sim City 2000 was out. That was the first time I saw the game in color! I played it equally as long. I played SC3000 was well but found my self immersed in SC4 w/ Rush Hour like the first one. All grown up, I have to young children who will be introduced to Sim City in February! Looking forward to it. so glad this franchise is still alive an kicking 20 years later!

My first experience with SimCity came during the 1980s on a Macintosh. I played the game and was hooked. Since then, I've played just about everything Sim-related at least once. SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion remains, to me, the best city simulator I've ever played, but the best disaster that you can experience is Space Junk from SimCity 3000 Unlimited. I also loved the SCURK that SimCity 3000 had; I was able to build a number of buildings to use in the game.

I'm hoping that the new SimCity will build on what was wrought in SimCity 4, especially in the way of transportation options and connectivity between cities. Even though it's been almost a decade since release, I still play SimCity 4 whenever I get time.

Simcity 4,Yes,I love this game when I see the new Simcity trailer on Youtube

I started playing SimCity2000 in the computer labs at my middle school. I loved this game, couldn't get enough. All this despite the fact that I had no idea how economics or even simple city planning worked. My cities were always terrible and I could never seem to get my budget balanced. I None of that deterred me from going out and getting SimCity3000 when it came out. Seeing as the intervening years allowed me to understand a little better how to plan out a city, and budgeting was no stranger to me anymore but my cities were still lacking something. So inevitably I would get bored and send fires, tornadoes, and aliens to my city at once, till it was all but a warzone. (speaking of which, that would be a cool disaster. Perhaps if the sims are upset and the riots aren't effective and you're just that terrible a mayor a revolution could occur? If you still have military bases in the game, as a mayor you could even call in the national guard).I didn't learn about SimCity4 until around 2008, so I might have missed the launch date by quite a bit but I played that game non stop. loved the crap out of it till it started getting buggy after an OS update. Then I forgot to install it after I purchased a new computer. I can't wait for SimCity to come out and I will be pre-ordering it in the very near future. I just want to save up a little for the deluxe edition. I'll have to go dig out my SC4 disk tonight. I'm sure by now there's a patch for it. I even play SimCity Social, though I hate the diamonds. seriously. some of us invite friends over if we want to play a game. Let me just enjoy the building my city without having to annoy my friends asking them to "give" me things. No, I will not buy them either. ever.

Okay, now that I'm done ranting...I'm sure you guys will do a great job, I've always loved the little ordinances that can go a long way toward improving the lives of your sims, even before it was a highlight of the game I always wondered what they were all up to down there. I look forward to seeing how you expand that in this upcoming installment. Lastly, as a photographer, I love how you are incorporating elements of Tilt-Shift photography into the aesthetics of SimCity.

I started playing the original SimCity on my dad's 80386 when I was 8 or 9 years old after playing a bit of the Tandy version at a friend's house. I may have been too young to really play the game well, but that didn't matter, I was already hooked. It was the first PC game that I really played a lot, but when I later got SimCity 2000 I was older and able to better appreciate the game and start building some better cities. I played the heck out of that game, and then played a bunch more after I got the SimCity Urban Renewal Kit. I still remember being super bummed when one of the sectors on the floppy for the Renewal Kit went bad and I couldn't install it anymore. I played some of SimCity 3000, and really got into SimCity 4, and remembered thinking how far the game had come from the early days on my dad's computer. I will also agree with others here, that I loved the humor in the games, from little things here and there, like the ever recurring llamas and other random statitistics like 'number of pidgens' and even the cheat codes. I am looking forward to the new SimCity more than any other game this year, and hoping my aging gaming computer can still run it with all the effects turned up.

Simcity for snes was my first ever sim game. I loved it. I remember making a square of 8 zones with parks in the middle so that eventually it would make the 2 zone buildings. Traffic was always an issue if you made roads. So i quickly learned that the only way to make it work is to never put road down, but instead use all rail for everything. I spent hours and hours on this game and sometimes even hours just cycling through the maps to find a map I liked. Plus you had the little helper guy that let you know how your city was going. That game was and still is soooo much fun. I next got sim city 2000. The reason I'm even commenting now is because of reticulating splines and how the lady used to say it. I had a very hard time building a good city in that game and continued to have that problem all the way up to sim city 4. Before I'm the wierdo with the longest comment i just wanted to say that sim tower, sim copter, and sim ant were awesome and I will never forgive EA for canceling TSO. I will still buy the games as I always do, but games are fun with friends. I appreciate the step towards making something thats multiplayer, but I want to play on my own region with a few friends and not from somebody on the other side of the world. Bring back TSO for stuff like that.

The first Sim City I played was on my SNES. I remember fighting with my brother over where to build streets, and how big to make a city block. It was great fun, and we loved watching Bowser trash each others cities. We would stay up so late just so we could save up and add a new section to our city. I look forward to diving in the the detail this new Sim City has to offer and sharing it with my kids.

Hey, I discovered the franchise with SC2K, to me so far the best version. Of course each generation has its favorite, and I am born 1983 so I guess that's why I was either too young to appreciate SimCity or too old to keep playing Sc3000. Still, having at least played all the other ones (societies excluded), I can tell you precisely why SC2K is special : it had 3 features that seemed to have disappeared later. First, it was pretty funny, the newspapers being randomly hilarious. There was also some amazing futuristic stuff : the "future" tileset, and the arcologies (maybe a reason why I studied architecture...ahem). And last but not least, the fact that you could redesign your whole city pixel bu pixel, thanx to SCURK. This was such a great tool that it probably inspired artists like eBoy. At this time (around 1995), I knew SimAnt and SimEarth, and I predicted that they would make a "SimLife" centered on simulated people and families (which turned out to be called The Sims). I also thought that they would extend SimCity to SimCountry or SimState or SimWorld - and still do not understand why they didn't. For myself I once created a SC2K tileset called "SimState" that you may have heard of. You still can download it here : http://simstate.xooit.com
Anyway, I am glad Maxis is back into business, after those terrible facebook-clones...

i was a little kid when i started playing sim city 4, i remember my first day haha i didnt know how to do anything and all i did was build volcanos then the city part i thought became very interesting to me very quick. i was horrible at it at first then i just learned new things and began building huge cities. I always came back to sim city 4 everytime a layout for a cool city popped into my head this game is so addicting to me. i love the fact that you could do what ever you want to a city and make it your own way. i tried to make my cities very realistic and put elaborate parks right next to my downtown where everything would be a concrete jungle and a huge patch of park right there. I really liked fact that you could make the land the way you wanted, I always tried to make very realistic land all around my city. This game is amazing
